Ms. Yu Lie Yap is a Senior Associate at TWL Law Group, with extensive experience in both litigation and advisory matters across Southeast Asia, including Malaysia, Myanmar, Cambodia, and Vietnam. She is qualified as an advocate and solicitor in Malaysia.

 

Prior to her tenure at TWL Law Group, Yu Lie dedicated over six years at the helm of the China Desk at an international firm. In this capacity, she provided comprehensive legal guidance to Chinese and international investors on a plethora of critical areas, encompassing foreign direct investment, corporate mergers and acquisitions, and the intricacies of dispute resolution.

 

Notably, Yu Lie played a key role in securing the first “recognition and enforcement proceeding" of a foreign arbitral award in Myanmar —an important milestone in the country’s legal landscape for foreign investors. She has also advised Chinese banks on debt recovery strategies in Myanmar, assisted in providing expert witness opinions on Myanmar law in international arbitration.

 

Qualified as an advocate and solicitor in Malaysia, Yu Lie holds both an LLB and an LLM from the United Kingdom and is fluent in English, Mandarin, Cantonese, and Bahasa Malaysia.
